Jessica Subject and her Sudden Breakaway

One of my favorite fellow Decadent Publishing authors is on my blog today AND is releasing her new book, Sudden Breakaway, which will surely be a huge hit.  Take it away Jessica...

What process do you use to develop your characters?
Honestly, they just pop into my head. Then through several brainstorming sessions (usually in the shower), they reveal their back story and motivation. After that, they will haunt me until I write their story. I usually have several in my head duking it out now to be next in line.

Describe your perfect day.
Regular - It starts in the morning when I wake up to an awesome song. I’m not tired, and my shower is extra refreshing. Then after some fun flirting or more with my DH, I get him off to work. When I get the kids up, they come right to the table then eat and dress without me having to constantly hound them. Once they are off to school, I have time to exercise then write, getting lost in the story. Then I have to pick the kids back up after they’ve had a wonderful day, and it’s family time until they go to bed. After that, my DH and I have our time together.
Weekend or holiday – I get to sleep in. This is a big deal for me as my son is an early riser, sometimes even earlier than me.

What are the contents of your purse?
My wallet, of course. I have glasses in there for driving at night, my keys, sunglasses, some postcards of my book covers, business cards, a notepad, tons of pens, Kleenex, lip gloss, little notes that my husband has written me over the years, a pile of receipts that I’ve tossed in there and haven’t cleaned out yet, mints, wet wipes that are usually dry by the time I get to them, crayons, and sometimes gum if my family hasn’t cleaned me out yet.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
In grade four, I passed out. I handed in a math test, and turned around to go back to my seat, but never made it. Though I don’t remember, I fell back and a small chalkboard fell on my head. Apparently, one of my classmates and the school principal carried me down to the health room where I finally returned to consciousness. That was the first of many embarrassing fainting spells. Thank goodness I seem to have outgrown them.

Your most memorable childhood experience.
A lot happened in grade four. There was the fainting, the shooting down the street from our school, dance club… But the most memorable was walking out on the stage at the Stratford Festival Theatre to say “When I grow up, I want to be a Nuclear Physicist.” It was part of the Dare to Dream production, and thankfully, I didn’t pass out on stage.

Thank you so much, Brenna, for having me on your blog today!! J

NEW RELEASE! Sudden Breakaway – a 1Night Stand story

Dressed in her black designer suit, Paige Brown recruits men and women for the Space Service. After the end of her marriage, and several failed recruiting missions, she yearns to find a way out of her lifelong contract to live a normal life. To find love again.

Jared Barnes’s life had been flipped upside down by two little kids. When his former Commander’s wife shows up to give him a reprieve, he jumps at the chance for a break, and to visit his former squad. But it is not his buddies he meets in the private suite at the hockey game, instead a woman who has been the star of all of his recent fantasies.

Sudden Breakaway Excerpt:

Jared shucked his towel and stroked his rigid cock. That woman made him hard every time she came to the door, trying to persuade him to sign up for the Space Service. Her claims had seemed far-fetched when she’d first approached him, yet his commander had confirmed her credentials, having been approached to join by another many years ago. While Jared would never add his thumbprint to the contract he’d read, he wouldn’t mind if she stopped by to try and convince him again.

Ms. Brown, with her black blazer revealing a hint of cleavage and a skirt that showed the perfect curvature of her ass. When he’d answered the door fresh out of the shower and seen her on his porch, he’d gripped the door handle to hold himself back from yanking her inside and tearing off her fine-pressed suit.

He squeezed his balls; no time to jack-off. Dylan and Madison would arrive in an hour, and he had to take one last run through his house to get rid of any lingering dust bunnies before Children’s Services appeared. No obvious dirt in the living room, he headed toward the kitchen, but his mind kept flying back to Ms. Brown.

She had the whole librarian thing going on, with her dark hair tied up in a bun and glasses resting on the end of her nose. Though, none of the women who worked at the local branch made his cock throb. Perhaps there was some truth to the naughty librarian tale. He wished.

Most women’s version of naughty did not come close to his. While the whole BDSM club scene didn’t appeal to him, he enjoyed a little bondage during foreplay. He’d spent months at a time deployed in the Middle East. While home, he appreciated the opportunity to date the pretty women who found a guy in uniform sexy. But once he fetched the cuffs, they bolted. They hadn’t even wanted to use them on him.

Ms. Brown was no girl, though. No more than a couple years his senior, she exuded experience with her seductive glances, her posture that plunged her cleavage into his line of sight, and that damn wiggle of her ass as she sashayed back to her car. She could teach him a thing or two. He yearned for the chance to find out.

  2. What is it about the shower that brings so many story ideas, lol - I'm the same way. Muses are cruel, I think, and like to watch us scramble for paper and pen while soaking.
Whew! I think I might need a shower after that excerpt!
No need to enter me, just stopping by to say congrats!
